How To Prevent And Fix The Etiolated Succulent

Generally speaking, elongating is a pathological condition that occurs when succulents do not absorb enough sunlight. The most obvious feature is the pale color and the curved shape of the plants. The symptom of chlorosis not only occurs in succulents but also occurs in other plants. Therefore, we need to learn some precautions and solutions to prevent plants from being threatened by elongating. So, how to prevent and fix the etiolated succulent?

What is etiolated?

Elongating is because plants lack sunlight and cannot form chlorophyll, making plants pale, growing slowly, and thinning and elongating leaves.

For succulents, the problem of yellowing occurs mostly in indoor plants. This is because most indoor spaces cannot give enough light to light-loving succulents. If the garden or outdoor plants grow in the shade, the disease of yellowing can also occur.

How do I know if my succulents have etiolated?

You can tell if your succulents are elongating by the following 4 signs:

1. The leaves are facing down
When the succulents are deprived of light, the leaves begin to droop and continue in this state. This is the earliest sign of yellowing symptoms and can only be corrected by sun exposure.

2. Succulents are curved
Succulents that lack light usually gives the impression of being curved and growing in a direction with more light. If the stretched chlorotic plants are not moved to sufficient light to grow, the stems on the other side will break off.

3. Unusual rapid growth and long stems appear
Everyone knows that the growth of succulents is relatively slow. When one side of it absorbs a lot of sunlight, it will grow faster than usual.

And this rapid growth also allows succulents to grow slender stems with large spacing between leaves.

4. Succulents become lighter in color
Normally growing succulents are very green in color, but they look very light without light, giving a feeling of weakness.

How to fix etiolated succulents?

Change the placement of succulents:
The best way to grow succulents indoors is to place them in the large south-facing windows of the house so that the plants can evenly absorb at least 4 hours of sunlight every day.

Buy succulent plant growth lights:
These artificial light sources can provide wavelengths suitable for photosynthesis to help the growth of indoor plants. Especially in winter, it is more suitable to use plant growth lights. But make sure to keep the growth light from above the plant, so that the plant can grow straight.
